I recently met a professional makeup artist for lunch.
She was adorned in all black: Cashmere cape draped over skintight black leggings, high-heeled leather boots over the knee. I was distracted by her lips as she talked: Fire engine red, shiny. She was heavily perfumed, beautiful, every detail in place.
“Go around and look at people’s eyebrows,” she whispered.
“What?!” I said, fumbling with the end of my own blue-and-green plaid blouse, trying to straighten it.
“I’m serious. Nothing is more untended to than eyebrows, and they’re right on people’s faces,” she hissed.
So I did.
It was, in part, rather enlightening: Most eyebrows are amazingly ungroomed, despite the fact that they are on people’s faces.
They are like the borders on the wallpaper, the handles on the drawers: You don’t notice them consciously, but you do certainly acknowledge when they are missing. And like exquisite crown molding or hardware on furniture, beautiful eyebrows can make a huge difference on a face.
Here are ten steps to perfect brows:
1.) Use a growth serum.
2.) Face shape matters:
3.) Measure the inner border (line #1).
4.) Measure the arch (line #2)
5.) Measure the outer border (line #3)
6.) Pluck.
7.) Trim.
8.) Fill.
9.) To be daring, try a different eyebrow color.
10.) Brush your eyebrows nightly.
