Why Biotin Isn’t Enough: Interview with Carla Rivas from Hair La Vie

Share Article

1.) Hi Carla nice to meet you! To get started, can you tell me a bit about yourself and the story behind Hair La Vie?

My family is from El Salvador but moved here just before I was born. I’m a proud survivor of ovarian cancer and am a hairstylist with over 10 years experience in the beauty industry. I was tired of two things. One, the way women were being treated both in the business world and through body shaming advertising. The second was the state of unhealthy fillers going into hair care (and beauty) products. So I teamed up with some friends and co-founded Hair La Vie to help empower the natural beauty in you. Hair La Vie will never use negative or beauty shaming advertising. Hair La Vie will also never create products filled with cheap fillers and artificial ingredients. I also has a beautiful two year old golden/husky puppy named Lola.

1.) So one thing that was interesting to me was your stance on Biotin, can you tell me more about that?

A huge misconception in the beauty and natural community is that all you need to grow hair and stop breakage is biotin. You actually need a lot more.

While biotin is an important part of a great hair growth vitamin, it is not a standalone supplement. To truly work wonders, biotin needs to be paired in harmony with an army of other powerful ingredients. Using biotin alone is like trying to clean your hair with just water. You need shampoo and all of its other ingredients to combine together with this water to get the job done the right way that will grow healthier, longer, fuller hair, faster than ever before.

Biotin can help grow stronger hair and keep a healthy scalp but in most cases it’s the actual hair follicle that has been damaged. Damaged follicles either don’t grow hair at all or grow weak, thin hair. So it’s extremely important to nourish the follicles. You need more natural nutrients like saw palmetto, borage oil and kelp to help repair the inflamed or shrunken root.

2) Our readers here on futurederm.com are pretty avid science buffs, can you tell me about any scientific literature Hair La Vie has that backs up the use of these other herbs for hair growth, restoration, and strength?

Each ingredient in our flagship product, Hair La Vie All Natural Hair Growth Vitamins, (and most ingredients in all of our other products) has been studied and clinically proven to help with naturally repairing your hair. You can find references to these studies and our helpful guide video here.

3.) What lead you to discover it was the hair follicle, and not just the hair itself, that needed to be repaired?

Because just think how hair grows. It doesn’t grow from the tip, so trimming your hair is not going to help repair the damage. It might look nicer but the only real way to repair your hair is by nourishing the follicles and scalp first by infusing them with the natural antioxidants and herbs proven to help stimulate the follicle and scalp.

Hair Growth Cycle

4.) What types of results are you getting after taking the supplement?

As with all products, our results do vary, but based on our most recent consumer survey 90% of women saw noticeable healthier hair with 85% seeing results within the first two months and 82% reporting faster growing hair.

5.) How long does it take to generate results?

This all depends on the damage to your hair, scalp and follicles. It can take up to 90 days to fully repair your hair’s cycle (which is why we offer a 90 day money-back guarantee) but as I said most customers report seeing results within the first few months.

6.) I saw a few interesting ingredients in your products that I’d love to ask about. What can you tell me about saw palmetto?

Saw palmetto is a plant. Its ripe fruit is used to make medicine. It has many medical benefits. Our favorite is how it helps hair block 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT. DHT is the molecule responsible for hair loss, and also is involved in the enlargement of the prostate.

7.) And I see horsetail here too, can you tell me more about that?

It’s not the kind of horsetail you might be thinking, this herb is rich in silica, a mineral which has been shown to accelerate hair growth, maintain hair elasticity, add luster to hair and helps to strengthen preventing split ends.

8.) What about kelp?

Kelp helps to repair the hair follicle because it’s a natural source of iodine, which helps to support the follicle by regulating resting time and helping to become active again.

9.) And lastly, can you tell me about borage oil and flax seed oil?

Borage oil contains a essential omega-6 fatty acid that helps to reduce inflammation of the hair follicle.

Flax seed oil helps to regulate the production of sebum oil in the scalp, increasing the retention of water, providing moisture, while relieving a dry, itchy scalp.

Thank you so much for taking the time to be interviewed and best of luck with Hair La Vie!
