La RochePosay Study

Good News from La Roche Posay for Rosacea Sufferers!

A recent study in the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology could be a step in the right, and less rosy, direction for those with rosacea. The study looked at a formula containing three ingredients: Ambophenol, Neurosensine and La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water. Could Your Genetics Be the Key to Youth?

Genes

Researchers think that the reason some people age so well could be the result of a lucky draw in the gene pool. More interesting yet, the genes don’t appear to have anything to do with the genes that account for longevity. A recent study done by Anne Lynn S. Chang, M.D. at the Alber Einstein College of Medicine took to New York City to look at 1,000 older Ashkenazi-Jewish adults, checking out gene variants and environmental factors. Using the assessments of a dermatologist blinded to their age and controlling for external factors like smoking, researchers were able to pick out a few genes that are good candidates for promoting skin youthfulness.

Using These Apps Instead of a Derm Could Be Deadly

Apps do not replace dermatologists

Smartphone apps to diagnose mysterious rashes and skin lesions have been on the rise lately, but doctors warn that they could have negative consequences. Researchers have found that these apps can often underestimate the severity of lesions. When they sent photos of malignant melanoma to one such app, it wrongly identified 88% of them as “medium risk” and incorrectly advised users to “monitor them.” Experts warn that apps such as these should not replace visits to doctors.

Get Ready for the Future of Thermometers — They Look Like Tattoos

Temperature can tell you a lot about your health, but you probably aren’t talking it regularly. Recently, researchers have developed a tattoo-like instrument made from gold and silicone that’s 50 microns wide and can tell your body temperature as well as other important data like blood flow and skin hydration. These sensors will be ultra sensitive and glued to skin, allowing for constant and precise information.
