I got engaged this weekend. (More about it, including the ring and the proposal, on Friday!)

It occurred to me during all this time just how much of my life I have spent chasing after some goal. Getting top grades in high school. Getting into medical school. Starting a business. Taking the business to the next level.

Somehow, in the midst of all that planning and working and stressing, I’m now 30 years old. And in the midst of all of that, I fell in love with someone, and he fell in love with me. I’m now going to be the wife to someone who is the kindest, most considerate man I’ve ever met.

It made me pause.

If I were to die tomorrow, I would look back on my life and realize that I needed to slow down. Cherish it all: The dinners after work. The walks outside with our dogs. The nights we spent cuddling on the sofa watching silly movies like Hot Tub Time Machine. The glances, the looks, the inside jokes. All of it.

Instead of being so stressed and distracted all of the time by deadlines or obligations or things that are simply out of my control, I’d be in each moment. Because, somehow, all of these moments for the past year and a half made me wife material.

I don’t want to half-live my life. I want to be there. Fully there. For all of it.

So, to quote the late great business philosopher Jim Rohn, I’m going to be grateful for all that I have, while I go after all that I want. I’m still ambitious and goal-oriented, but I’m also going to slow down and actually count my blessings on a daily basis. Because, quite frankly, there is so much here.

And I hope you feel the same about your life. If not, it’s never too late to start over, try again.

Love,
Nicki
