Shocking: New Lip Gloss Prevents Date Rape?

According to the latest news on CosmeticDesign.com, the 2LoveMyLips lip gloss contains a drug-testing kit that can detect GHB and ketamine, which are two of the drugs most commonly used by date rape assailants.

Managing director of the 2LoveMyLips Company, Tracy Whittaker, explained to CosmeticsDesign that girls on a night out with suspicions about their drink can just dab the pink taper in, and watch to see if the color changes to blue.  If it is blue, women are encouraged to alert the security, as well as the police.

At first, I didn’t think that there would be much of a market for a lip gloss like this – until I read reports that one of four women in the United Kingdom (of 750 surveyed) has reported having her drink spiked.   In addition, the Roofie Foundation, a UK agency set up to help victims of drug rape, has reported receiving 1,200 calls to their helpline in the last two years.  Although the rate of date rape appears to be lower in America, with the average woman in the U.S. running an 8 percent risk in her lifetime, it’s still a scary statistic.  With that said, I’m going to buy one for my closest club-hopping friend:  you never can be too safe.

Currently, 2LoveMyLips lip gloss is available in vending machines at selected bars and clubs in the United Kingdom, and online at the 2LoveMyLips site for £9.99 per tube (approximately USD $14.87, using today’s conversion factor).  The products are available in five flavors: Sophisticated Coffee, Charismatic Cherry, Passionate Pink, Beautiful Pink, and Posh Gloss.  And while I can’t find an ingredients list anywhere, I suspect this is one lip gloss that is better left in your bag for emergencies than on your lips.
