6 Must Have Makeup Brushes

Happy Friday! Today I’ve got 6 Must Have Makeup Brushes to show you. These are brushes you may not know you need, but they’re definitely must haves in my book. I have brushes are from multiple brands including Furless Cosmetics, Real Techniques and ecoTools. All three brands are cruelty-free. If you own brushes like these but have never known what to do with them, you’ll learn today!

Previous Installments in this series:
Furless Purple Power Brush Set – made up of face and eye brushes.
ecoTools Essential Eye Brush Set – exclusively eye makeup brushes.

Real Techniques Fiber Optic Crease Brush

This is the Real Techniques Brush.

Two Fiber Optic Crease Brushes

The brush on the left is the Real Techniques brush. The one on the right is a fiber optic pointed crease brush that I’ve had forever.

Fiber Optic Crease Brush (Real Techniques)

The brush on the right has been invaluable to me! It makes it easy for me to shade in the outer v and outer crease. Mine is 5 years old at this point and I really need to get another, but it’s the perfect size and I haven’t been able to find another like it. However, Real Techniques (the brush on the left) has a duo fiber set that contains a good crease brush. One of my only issues with these brushes are that they stain and it’s hard to remove the stains, so brights like Sugarpill Afterparty like to stay around.

ecoTools highlighter brush

Fiber Optic Highlighter Brush (ecoTools)

I LOVE the fiber optic highlighter brush! Mine is from the ecotools Touch Up Set. It’s great for applying highlighters to the cheeks as it diffuses the product nicely. You can also use it as an all over finishing brush if you like.

ecoTools Duo Fiber Finishing Brush

Duo Fiber Brush (ecoTools)

This brush is a duo fiber brush that I use to apply finishing powder. Mine is from the Alicia Silverstone ecoTools brush set. I think a brush like this is critical for properly applying finishing powder, though there are other ways to apply finishing powder, too, which I’ll cover in another post. You could also use this to stipple on foundation.

Furless Bent Eyeliner Brush

Bent Eyeliner Brush (Furless Pro6E)

I find using a bent eyeliner brush to be the easiest way to apply gel eyeliner. It also works with wet eyeshadow as liner. To apply liner with this brush, start in the middle of the lid and work inwards to the corner of the eye. Then go back to the middle and work your way outwards. You can create a cat eye or not, as you choose. This one in particular has a really nice, thin tip.

Furless Pro Lash and Brow Grooming Brush

Metal Brow Groomer (Furless Pro1E)

You NEED a lash comb with metal tines. It is seriously a must have! You want metal tines, as opposed to plastic, because they will separate your lashes. So if you apply mascara and find it clumps, use this comb to get rid of clumps. I’ve never been able to get the plastic brushes to unclump lashes, so they just seem like a waste to me.

You can also apply your mascara with this comb. Run your mascara wand on the tips of the tines, then comb upwards and outwards through your lashes. You’ll end up with no clumping and your lashes will look good! You can even curl your lashes AFTER you apply mascara if you use this technique, because you’re applying very little product.

Furless Fan Brush

Fan Brush (Furless Pro5M)

For a very long time, I had no idea how to use a fan brush. After watching several tutorials, I finally discovered a great use! After you apply your contour, blush and highlighter, very lightly use a fan brush to blend the edges of the contour, blush and highlighter. There are probably other ways to use this brush. I know that I’ve had people tell me put down a bunch of powder under your eyes, then apply your eyeshadow, then brush away the fallout with a fan brush, but that’s only ever made a mess for me.

You can also use the fan brush to apply highlighter.

So these are 6 of my must have makeup brushes, outside of the basics.  Next week I’ll show you some of my favorite individual brushes.

What are your favorite brushes? Are there any brushes you want to know more about?

Some products purchased by me. Some products sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.
